Its 80 hectares of limestone rock are home to a rich variety of fauna and flora , in many cases possessing endemisms of great ecological value , among which we highlight those of a marine nature, for example, the oceanic Posidonia meadows of its soft bottoms. As for fauna, it provides shelter to numerous species, such as the Balearic shearwater and the peregrine falcon ; lizards, such as the Pitiusas lizard ; and invertebrates, such as the helicidae snail. And, until its disappearance in 2016, it also served as home to an entire colony of goats and rabbits.

Below the viewpoint of the Torre de Es Savinar, we find impressive cliffs and steep coast, such as Sa Pedrera , or, also nicknamed by hippies in the 60s as “ Atlantis ”, in reference to the lost city that Plato describes in Timaeus and Critias .

In reality, Atlantis was a marés quarry from which material was extracted to build part of the walls of Dalt Vila , which was converted by the hippies into a magical place where we could connect with nature and meditate, where we can Even today, you can find altars, figures carved in the rock and paintings of Buddhas or gods. There are those who say that this unique and hidden place, in the influence area of Es Vedrà , has a special energy.

And there are all kinds of legends around this islet, both ancient and contemporary. Some claim that no one has ever died on it and others attribute a supernatural magnetism to it, which has even given rise to extrasensory experiences, from people who claim to have observed UFOs, to even those who maintain that it is the refuge of sirens whose songs, according to mythology Greek, they seduced sailors to their perdition. Others believe it is the place of origin of Tanit, the Phoenician lunar goddess associated with dance, fertility and considered the protector of Ibiza, whose magnetic presence is said to embrace the island, drawing parallels with Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. However, if we had to highlight a figure who gave mysticism to the island, it would be that of Father Francisco Palau, a barefoot Carmelite who lived there in exile in the 19th century. Exposed, voluntarily, to recurring periods of fasting, years later Father Palau claimed , in his book My Relations with the Church, to have witnessed all types of visions and supraterrestrial experiences on the island.
